Welcome to the Baltrusaitis Group

Our goal here at The Baltrusaitis Lab is to identify and develop an understanding of the fundamentals of heterogeneous catalytic processes with particular emphasis on optimum catalyst design.

An additional goal is to learn sustainable nutrient (i.e., N, P, K, Mg, Ca and S) management.

Specific areas of focus are

  • Explanations concerning why these reactions occur

  • Identification and characterization of reaction intermediates

  • Determination of reaction site locations

Another area of focus is Sustainable Greens Chemistry, where catalytic valorizations of ethanol, methane and biomass play a significant role in helping to improve the quality of life. In this work, we utilize theoretical calculations, such as DFT, and surface and bulk characterization, relying on both results of experiments and theoretical explanations.
